12 Ultimate Betrayal

Emma

Emma had realized for some time, her dreams were growing ever more vivid. They always seemed to involve the ship and crew. Why, oh why, couldn’t she just have sexy dreams of their hot captain? That would be so much more fun. Try as she might, she never even had one dream of them doing sexy things together. That was proof to her mind that life wasn’t fair.

Again tonight she found herself walking down a long corridor. She glanced around, and as always, the walls had thousands of tiny glowing holographic threads running down them. It was almost like the ship was made of computer data. She saw the door to the quarters she shared with Maloc. She stood staring at the door and realized something that now seemed critically important. In all the endless dreaming of walking the ship, she had never once come here. Why was that? Excitement strummed through her gut. Maybe this was her subconscious mind’s way of starting a sexy-times dream sequence.

Unable to stop herself, she walked through the door. What she saw on the other side stopped her in her tracks. She saw herself asleep on the bed. Maloc was lovingly combing a lock of her hair while he waited for her to wake. She looked small and delicate next to the huge Traj warrior. He put the comb down, reached over and rearranged a lock of her hair. The expression on his face was one of love and tenderness. She recognized the look, because he gave it to her in real life as well.

He was wearing only those sexy shorts he always wore around their quarters and was drop-dead gorgeous with those pointed ears she liked so much. Her eyes slid over his muscular shoulders and arms. Wrapping a long lock of red hair around his finger, he gently toyed with it, careful to avoided waking her up. Emma smiled to herself, that he was almost as considerate in her little dream world as he was in real life.

Suddenly, there was a loud thud like something hitting the hull. Maloc hit button on the wall and the strands of filament that she normally saw superimposed on everything came snaking out to cover her frail body in a web of protection. A feeling of unease grew in her gut as Maloc eased off the bed and ran out of the room. She stood momentarily, staring at her sleeping self. Then she slowly turned to follow him.

It was strange. She didn’t need to open doors. She just thought where she wanted to be, and she was there. She created an image of the bridge in her mind. She knew that’s where he would go, if there was trouble. Suddenly, she was standing on the bridge. The bridge crew were scrambling to counter an attack. Within a matter of minutes Maloc walked in the door. He walked right past her, like she wasn’t even there. He immediately sat in his command chair, and his crew began feeding him information.
